Fed right the fuck up with this wire malarky. Had a wireless mouse and keyboard before but I can't find the dongle...or the mouse...or the keyboard!
It was annoying as it had this adapter that would go into the back of the mouse\keyboard slot. But this thing was huge and it stuck out the back of the PC like a 2 Datel Snes converters with games in them. The slightest nudge would make it fall out of place resulting in a PC restart most of the time to get it working. Also on the look out for a wireless router. Want to keep my 360 and PC wired but need the wireless for the laptop, TV and PS3 downstairs. Thanks! ;D |

In my expeience, wireless technology is still shit. I've got a wireless keyboard and it randomly loses the signal every now and again - it either goes completely or it fluctuates (which is often the reason for the typos that have littered my posts over the last couple of years). I've had the same problem using different wireless keyboards on different PCs.
And it's a similar story with wireless routers. I have a bit of a nightmare getting online with my Wii, thanks to it being wireless only, and my PS3 only manages to connect about 70% of the time. Unless the leads are proving to be a real problem, I'd suggest sticking with them where you can. Esp where the mouse and keyboard are concerned. |

The wireless keyboard and mouse that came with my Aspire Revo have been fine - being bundled with a £200 mini PC is probably a good sign that they didn't have much time or money spent on them. The dongle is tiny for them too, sticks out less than 1cm from the USB port. It misses a couple of letters from time to time (the letter O specifically) so it probably has a few dodgy keys. As I look at the screen when I type, this is no problem.
Based on this, I would extrapolate that just about anything modern you could buy of an acceptable brand will be fine. I would go on Amazon, find a bundle from Microsoft or Logitech, then just check the reviews and make sure you're not getting a duffer. As for wireless routers Randy... lol. I think you are a walking bundle of electromagnetic interference! This post has been edited by Willei: Jun 9 2010, 06:08 AM |

What router would you recommend then? The actual router will be upstairs but the Laptop\PS3 will be downstairs in the corner. Do I need to taKe into account the range of the signal and crap? Don't know...
Just want one that can't fail really and that I can still plug in my 360 and PC to it with good old wires. |

Use Homeplugs like these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Value-200Mbps-...2205&sr=8-3 (cheap, had one die on me after 2 year but the other one is going fine) for your PS3 no flaky connection when gaming.
As for the router, do you live in an old house with thick walls? I live in a 60's built house and wireless g/b is fine. If not think about witless N capable router, though I imagine you will need a dongle for your laptop as if it has wireless more than likely it will be g/b. I currently use one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-DG834GT-10...2387&sr=1-1 . It flakes out when the weather is bad, but has a nice web interface and upgrading the firmware is real easy. |

Don't worry about the homeplugs for now as you're still connecting the Xbox with a wire, it's not like you need to play online games on the PS3 anyway. Wireless will be fine for just downloading stuff from the Store.
Hard to give advice on routers. Are you on ADSL or a cable connection? I have a spare router I can give you next time I see you in either circumstance, but neither are especially high-end. It's a good starting point to gauge whether it's worth springing for something more advanced. Unless you need it right away, in which case... lol. Get me on MSN about it if you want. |

That's good actually, the spare cable router I have is quite decent and the ADSL one is about three years old.

As for wireless routers Randy... lol. I think you are a walking bundle of electromagnetic interference! It's true! I was round at my mum's at the weekend and couldn't get her laptop to connect to her router for more than thirty seconds at a time, if at all. Both hers and mine are Netgear ones, by the way. |

Netgear ones have been shite in my personal experience, I've tended to avoid them as much as possible.

I've had no problems with Linksys DG wireless routers, so would recommend those to anyone who asked.
As for wireless mouse and keyboard - I'm one of these cunts that goes on about how the keyboard, mouse and chair are the most important part of a computing setup, so I would be prepared to splash out a few quid if you're going to get heavy use out of it. I have a MS Natural Keyboard (as I have RSI) and some Logitech mouse monstrosity that both cost a fair whack, but in reality they're worth every penny. |

Netgear ones have been shite in my personal experience, I've tended to avoid them as much as possible. Netgear stuff is decent. It costs a little more than the Belkin or Linksys equivalent, but it's better. I've been called out to sort loads of problems with wireless networks, and it's hardly ever Netgear kit that has fallen over. It's to the extent that I actually recommend Netgear now when people ask (about replacing their current kit with stuff from PC world). |

I've had no problems with Linksys DG wireless routers, so would recommend those to anyone who asked. I've had loads of issues with Linksys kit in the past. One of the main problems with their routers, is that they used to overheat and drop the internet connection prompting constant reboots. I have one at the moment though, and touch wood it's OK despite so far. It's a wireless-N jobby that was going cheap in a sale so I went for it despite it being a reluctant purchase due to my problems with Linksys in the past. |
