Again, spoiler for safeness » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « .On another topic; I love Bison. His massive shit-eating grin after he introduces himself as the Mighty Bison is enough, but on top of that he's got the most dismissive victory taunt ever in the history of fighting games with "You have FAILED... to stave off my boredom". Wicked sesh with Singho on this!!
Clocked a quick 30 matches til 3am this morning...Just like the good old days! Singho, you've learned some unbelievable skank with him already, it was brilliant!! He's me thinking he's far too weak and you pull out some wicked tricksy manouvres! You had me all over the place with all that air teleporting!! After we finished I jumped into training and what you were doing with the air teleport...It's possible to do air headbutt, standing headbutt, EX Yogaflame (or light yogaflame if you have no super) - it's wretched! I still don't like his shoto match ups tho which is probably why I was so put off with him in the first place, as that's all you ever see on line. still you were doing okay against them. It's sooo cool to be learning as we go along. You play HDR and you know everything there is to know but this is a whole new experience of ideas and techniques. Love it! They had better hurry up and get this Championship patch out so we can have some multi lobby play More sessions please! |

How the hell do I do C. Viper's Heavy Kick to Emergency Combination? It NEVER seems to work, Dan constantly blocks and even when I do QCF x 2, before the Heavy Kick and then hit Punch before the 2nd hit of the Heavy Kick lands, although it hits him it just doesn't register.

unlocked everybody now, and have started opening myself up for ranked matches. they've all been really laggy so far though, with two exceptions, both of which i won with cammy against akuma. i was a touch lucky though i must admit. but its always good to beat tossers and their air fireball spam. most of the normal matches i've had have been fine lag wise though.
it really knackers me out playing too, i need a rest every few matches. they really need to do something about challenge mode though, i havent got a clue what they want half the time. even watching them on youtube its still tricky. it just need to show you what to do and the timing as well really. |

He's me thinking he's far too weak and you pull out some wicked tricksy manouvres! You had me all over the place with all that air teleporting!! Cheers Goeman, always a pleasure. That was a pretty intense session, I just love it when mid way through a fight one of us goes... "wait, wait, wait...how did you do that?" Then we sit there practicing it for a bit then start going all out again the next match. xD QUOTE After we finished I jumped into training and what you were doing with the air teleport...It's possible to do air headbutt, standing headbutt, EX Yogaflame (or light yogaflame if you have no super) - it's wretched! I was really happy with my Dhalsim yesterday, I've realised that to do Dhalsim's air combo you need to do an instant air teleport where you end the teleport command with Stepped into training mode and I swear half of the combos in that mode are just simply impractical. Nice to know they are there, but I won't be using them. Best one in there I found was HP headbutt, cancel into yoga fire into Yoga inferno. I think that might be easier to do off the instant air teleport but I couldn't get it to work in a match properly. QUOTE I still don't like his shoto match ups tho which is probably why I was so put off with him in the first place, as that's all you ever see on line. still you were doing okay against them. I'm not really bothered about shotos, fireball spammers are toast if you Focus Attack the constant fireballs and build up your revenge gauge. Awesome tip that, turned many a match of mine tonight into a walk over with instant Yoga Catastrophe in stock. xD Played a few Sagats online in Ranked with Dhalsim, and I really am having trouble against him. The tiger knee is just really safe and the amount of effort required to beat a decent Sagat nevermind a random Tiger Knee, Random EX Tiger Knee is far too much. Had a good go against 5 or so different people with different play styles, but I was either getting cained or winning by the skin of my bollocks. I only had success beating these Sagats with Balrog boxer, but I don't like using that character at all. His EX dashes work wonders against tiger shots and his Ultra goes through almost anything Sagat can throw at him. I am also missing parries now. Chip damage off the floor, getting hammered by fireball after fireball if you make a tiny mistake kind of got me riled up tonight, not too much but I was just thinking "humph". It's not really that much of an equaliser or a counter against Ultras. Actually, I am finding matches now more or less whoever misses their Ultra...they are screwed if it wasn't stored up by fireball Focus Attacking. Still enjoying, not too happy that my character of choice requires far too much effort to hang with some of the big boy characters. I'm hoping learning the instant air teleport combos will shift certain matches into my favour. Still not unlocked any new characters, want to, but cba. |

On The Road![]() |
First round of UK SFIV tournaments were held over the weekend:
Gamerbase RB (20th February): 1st. Zak - Sagat 2nd. The Prince - Sagat 3rd. IMX - Zangief NeoEmpire Tournament (22nd February): 1st. Zak - Sagat 2nd. PrivateRyan - Zangief (blaaaaytant) 3rd. kaworu - M.Bison I think there was a tournament up in the Midlands too, though I don't know the result of that. Both tournaments were pretty good, there were about 80 players turn up for the Gamerbase thing but the tournament was capped at 64. Sagat is dominating. Or Zak and The Prince's Sagats are dominating but still, there are a LOT of new players in both tournaments who picked Sagat up. Online was a Ryu fest last time I played but Sagat is definitely the most popular character I saw at those tournaments, followed by Akuma, Zangief and then probably Ryu. Gouken was really popular too. As far as the new characters go, Abel is definitely the most popular character. There's one dedicated C.Viper player and El Fuerte player. I didn't see -anyone- play as Rufus at all during both tournaments, during the actual tournament or during casuals, and the arcade cabinet in Trocadero has him down as the least picked character (followed by Dhalsim). I think Gief's popularity will decline once the honeymoon is over and people realise how stacked his match-up with Sagat is in Sagat's favour - Sagat's popularity will force a Gief decline, I'm sure of it. It's the main reason I want to switch to Dhalsim on a permanent basis, to deal with bloody Sagat! Hopefully C.Viper will pick up in popularity too. She's a really fun character to watch and fight against but she's also been hit hard by a few ridiculous match-ups. Also, backdash as a defensive tool is WAY too good. I've not really seen anyone use it right now except for Zak but it's Garou-like in how effective it is... |

Cool, nice report man! Shame I couldn't make either event.
Has Vega been represented at these events yet? I'm feeling at the moment that he's massively underrated and his counterpicks aren't hugely popular characters. He actually has some good matchups against the stronger characters! If he's bottom tier, he's the best bottom tier I've ever picked up. This post has been edited by Willei: Feb 23 2009, 10:54 AM |

I've seen a training video of the back dash invulnerability frames, it's something like frames 1 to 8 and 1 to 7 for one particular character. Rah!

I don't want this game ruled by a chosen few like 3rd strike. People are saying that the range between top and bottom tier isn't that much but I'm starting to worry that it is. Also can the back dash be done instantly on wake up or do you have to perform a move and FADC out of it? |

An El Fuerte player, Dawgtanian, reached the quarter-finals of the Gamerbase RB but his quarter-final match against IMX's Zangief was just... hilarious, in a really sad way. El Fuerte must have hit Zangief with about 20 mix-ups, guessing right everytime, and the crowd was cheering him on. After about 30-40 seconds of constantly mixing up and rushing Zangief down, he makes one mistake - ONE - and gets hit by a Zangief Ultra. Zangief then jumps in, SPD, jumps in, body splash, match over. Second round went the same way. One of the saddest/funniest things I've seen. Reminded me a lot of Twelve vs Ken.
The results are probably be skewed right now because the serious players, who are by extension are also the tier whores, hit the game hard when it was on show at NE events, MCM, Eurogamer Expo, etc. Not to mention the arcade. So they were a step ahead anyway. And we'll have to see how the console characters pan out. But Sagat is a very, very strong character... QUOTE(Goemon) Also can the back dash be done instantly on wake up or do you have to perform a move and FADC out of it? Instantly on wake-up, like a reversal but without the 'Reversal' message. Beats everything Zangief does, unless Zangief anticipates it and goes for EX Banishing Flat (which is a free combo to the other player if he guesses right and blocks it). Its usefulness may be match-up specific but against Zangief, it's a VERY good tool, definitely the best defensive option most players have. QUOTE(Willei) Has Vega been represented at these events yet? I'm feeling at the moment that he's massively underrated and his counterpicks aren't hugely popular characters. He actually has some good matchups against the stronger characters! If he's bottom tier, he's the best bottom tier I've ever picked up. Only one player that I saw. He was up against IMX's Zangief but he didn't seem to know the match-up, so he got bounced out early on without too much hassle. Didn't see any other Vega players in casuals for either tournament, so I think he's all yours! As far as the low tiers go, there was only one Vega player, one El Fuerte and one Guile player out of 80-odd players the first tournament and 45-odd the second. Pretty low numbers. No E.Honda at all either. Oh, and this guy too... but I wouldn't put too much stock into his performance lol This post has been edited by PrivateRyan: Feb 23 2009, 11:22 AM |

Then again, I can't really talk since my sole reason for putting time into Vega was because he's meant to be the worst character. Like a moth to the flame... Was that the first time that guy had picked Vega or something? He's doing quite a few things from ST that aren't viable any more, and a few things that simply don't work like anti-air EX barcelona. |
