Selection of hardware shots here:
http://screenshots.t...41/Xbox-360/p1/

Finished hardware looks OK really. Much nicer than in the leaked shots and MS PR image. Not as big as one feared either.

Specs:
http://hardware.team...ecifications/p1

Perfect Dark Zero
http://www.1up.com/d...dia?cId=3138147
Looks worse than Halo in some places. And not running at a stable 30FPS yet according to MTV showgoers... Ouch.

Ghost Recon 3
http://media.xbox360...206/imgs_1.html
Looks nicer, but pretty claustraphobic. Plenty of bloom lighting to obscure sparse background detail.

Kameo

Posted Image
Looks nicer still, but still not quite what I'd been hoping for.

Test Drive Unlimited
Posted Image

Lots more close-up moody shots on IGN. Nice effects, but again with the bloom lighting obscuring the horizon.

Price - not yet decided.
Release date - November 2005 (no actual date decided), Europe a week later, Japan in December.
Backward compatibility is "still being worked on" and it's still not known whether it'll make the cut.

Sony must be rubbing their hands with glee. I've not seen a launch this premature and botched since the Sega Saturn.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ouch.

Of course, it's near impossible to draw parallels between the two releases becuase of the huge differences in markets and companies involved, but, as said in the other thread: "I'm certainly excited..."

If all those Ogres can move and act individually in that Kameo shot, them I really am drawn to the 1000 Marios video (is that correct?) from Nintendo a few years ago :s

Thanks a lot for the concise round-up of the XB360 info, Burai :)

Some game specific vids links shamelessly stolen from somewhere...

NBA 2k6: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48291
Ghost Recon 3: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48286
Quake 4: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48292
Call of Duty 2: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48296
Gears of War: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48285
Project Gotham 3: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48295
Need for Speed: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48299
Full Auto: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48282
Condemned: http://www.mtv.com/m...ml?_lpvid=48283

Need to allow pop ups temporarily to watch the vids though. Out of all the vids here, Condemned looks great. If goin round a city shooting, hitting the shit out of tramps is your kind of fun, this game is for you! Condemned: Tramp Fighter EX Plus Alpha Shizzle 2.

Saw a bit of Quake 4 vid too...hmmmm and also of Full Auto by Sega. Seems like Carmaggedon but with Burnoutish graphics...and no pedestrians. Doesnt seem any point to ram your opponent of the road, as they just bounce off the wall, and land back on there wheels and carry on. Also, in this game Machine gun & Rockets > Ramming.

Gamespot Unvieling

This was prolly the best video of them all, some shots of Ghost Recon 3 in the background, as well as some industry guff.

http://www.ourcolony.net/

Click here to download a rar file of either a High\Low res version of marketing guff. Pretty good, talks about some of the features, while not actually showin any ingame footage or screens. Lots of shots of the hardware though, worth a look.

Also at the end of the video, all those who took part in the Ourcolony game, got a mention...shit, would of been good that. ;\

RLLMUK got a cool mention ;(

My take on the whole thing is that they've really nailed down the hardware and the back-end, taking a lot of cues from the homebrew Xbox Media Center and the various dashboards we've seen. Xbox Live seems to be everything the first incarnation should have been and then some. It's the games it falls down on. Any game that has large expansive spaces looks relatively Xbox-like - I'm talking Xbox poly count characters, but more of them, in a bigger space. Any games with models that look anything like photorealistic appear to be taking place in a nuclear fallout with insane pupil-destroying sunsets and field-of-vision effects obscuring anything further than 20 real-life feet from the camera. My Saturn observation isn't so much to do with visuals though (after all, PS3 and Rev could be equally as underwhelming). It's more the little details - things like how they don't have a price locked down and that backward compatibility isn't likely, but they still aren't sure either way. It's like they still haven't got the details sorted out six months before launch. If we use Team Xbox forums - easily the most devout Xbox community on the net - as a barometer, the general feeling appears to be that what we've seen thus far is massively disappointing, even to massive Xbox fans. But the biggest test of all is to ask yourself this question... Are you as utterly stunned by what you see as you were the first time you saw Sonic being chased by a killer whale, Luigi being chased by ghosts, Solid Snake having a shoot-out in the pouring rain or Mario running around the outside of Princess Peach's castle?

While my first impressions were kind of "MEH" , i wasnt blown away by watchin any of the 360 footage, cos, it seems the jump from this gen to next gen isnt that huge. HOWEVER, im well impressed with all the xbox live features, and ive just finished watchin the MTV show. What a load of shit...apart from the visit to RARE studios where you get to see Perfect Dark Zero in action. From the little time we saw it on screen without the camera spinning round or cutting away  it looked great imo. The final Deathmatch thing was a joke, too much cut away from the action so you couldnt see what was happening. Looked like a xbox was linked up so you could spectate in a match (old idea on PC FPS which imo should of always been on normal xbox games.) It also seems that the camera pans back when you are doin an action move such as a roll or a jump and then snaps back to First person view like in Metroid. During an "interview" of some kid with a baseball cap, i perked up when i heard *Fully destructable objects... *50 players or more multiplayer :| *The game is cool... 50 players... :D Out of all the things ive seen, the snippets of the Perfect Dark Zero have been the best, but you dont get to see too much of it onscreen for too long. Some of the effects such as the flame thrower (?) and xray you see in the deathmatch looked great. The jet pack thing looks interesting too. :) Oh during the RARE visit, the bloke stole the bints guns...disarming? :)

I see your point Burai, but I don't think anything is going to make that leap from 2D to 3D again, or at least, not for a while. In answer though, I've not seen anything to blow me away just yet, but I'll give it till E3.

I'll more than likely buy one now. In reflection, I've been really pleased with my Xbox, and think Microsoft have done a decent job of entering a market when most people had nothing but scorn for them. They've had some really good games out, and some shit ones, but overall I've been fairly happy with their portfolio and their service.

Not having a price and not having an announcable decision on backwards compatibility is not surprising to be honest. They'll probably wait till E3 or even closer before they let that particular nugget slip.

What Paul said, tbh. Even when PC devs push the hardware (which they've been doing recently), the leap isn't that far, you just know it look fantastic.

I've been looking at it like this - even my PC, which the xbox 360 is clearly more powerful than, could run Doom3 with all the trimmings smooth as a baby's arse at 640x480. In fact, to take a direct example, I bet they port the engine over. I think now that console devs have caught up with all the jiggery pokery, they'll start to push the envelope a bit.

I can see where you're coming from though, and frankly, compared to recent PC games, those environments are poor. I hope they realise how much more texturing they can do, this time round.

(sorry for all the PC comparisons btw, but they are the benchmark for graphical quality).

I've been impressed with everything I've seen so far. Sure it's not a massive leap over the current generation, but you can definitely tell it's next-gen. Plus what we're seeing now are rushed titles, the second wave of games will start pushing things further. Ok...I admit...I'm a sucker for new hardware! :)

To be completely honest, I think half of the new screens I have seen do not live up to the graphics of Wrestlemania XXI on the Xbox.

Just watched the XB360 launch video, and it seems its they will be pushing the xblive aspect very hard.. Which is cool. Not to sure about the actual games shown so far.. Ghost Recon looks the best, Condemned looks to rough to comment on with the fps being around 25. Full Auto looks pap..

Underwhelming. It's a PC.. again. Yay.

Oh well, I'll probably get one once it's modded / MS drop the price so that their losing enough on it :P

Can't get over those faceplates... LOL. Rank. >_<

Glad to see they've finally put the Black and White buttons in a realistic place on the pad, though.

I really hope everything is running at 60 fps at launch, PGR 3 might swing it for me if the price is right.

Just watch the MTV show… it was terrible. The ourcolony video is very good. I am overwhelmed by the hardware and ideas, just think what this console could actually do once developers get to grips with it.

All 3 use cell or g5 processors and PC gpus. Not sure what you're basing the above on.
